Kcho

(Alexis Leyva Machado)


Kcho was born in Isla de la Juventud, Cuba in 970.  He is a graduate of La Academia de  Artes Plasticas San Alejandro, La Habana, Cuba, 1990.

In 1996, Kcho became the youngest Latin American to be in the Museum of Modern Art’s (MoMA) New York permanent collection at age 25.

Migration is a major theme in his work and boats, oars, docks and water are recurrent symbols. Known for his large scale site-specific installations, Kcho is also an excellent draftsman creating paintings, drawings and prints. 

He was the grand prize recipient at South Korea's Kwangju Biennial in 1995, which launched him into the international art scene as one of Cuba's most important artists.

Roberto Fabelo


Roberto Fabelo was born in Camagüey, Cuba in 1951.  He is a graduate of  La Escuela Nacional de Arte (The National School of Art), 1972.

Fabelo is one of Cuba’s most well known artists and creator of the fabulous wax etching Sueño de Sirena (Mermaid dream).

He was the recipient of the UNESCO Promotion of the Plastic Arts award in 1996 and the National Prize for Plastic Arts in Cuba. Roberto Fabelo illustrated the new edition of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude.

Luis Miguel Valdés

Luis Miguel Valdés was born in La Habana, Cuba.  He is a graduate and professor of the Escuela Nacional de Arte (National Art School), La Habana, Cuba.

In 1984, he received a scholarship to study at Stanley William Hayter’s prestigious “Atelier 17”, where Picasso and Toledo  also studied.

Luis Miguel Valdés, together with other artists and professors, founded El Instituto Superior the Arte (Superior Institute of Art) in 1976, La Habana, Cuba. He later founded La Siempre Habana printmaking workshop in Coyoacán, México together with the poet Cuitláhuac Rangel in 2000.
 
Valdés has always supported the creation and promotion of fine printmaking in Cuba  and his work as consistently focused on the colonial architecture of Cuba.  He was  awarded the Cuban National Medal for Culture in 2004.




Nelson Domínguez

Nelson Domínguez was born in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba in 1947.  He graduated from the La Escuela Nacional de Arte (National School of Art) and later became professor at that school and the Instituto Superior the Arte (Superior Institute of Art), specializing in printmaking.

One of his most well-known works is La Dama de Elche (The Lady of Elche) an enchanting copper etching and sugarlift inspired by an ancient bust found in the town of Elche, Spain, believed to be from the 4th century B.C.

His artwork can be found in the Galeria Estudios Los Oficios, in the Casco Histórico (Historic Center) in La Habana, which is now designated Patrimony of Humanity.  His work can also be found in the following selected collections:

 Agustin Bejarano

Agustin Bejarano was born in Camagüey, Cuba, 1964.  He is a graduate of the Instituto Superior de Arte (Superior Institute of Art), specializing in printmaking, 1988.

             
Bejarano is well known for his “Coquettes” or “Flirts”, a series of 14 muses inspired by his wife Aziyade.

He is the founder and director of the Printmaking Workshop of Camagüey.
 
Bejarano has been awarded numerous prizes and distinctions including:
- 1995 Prize, XI Printmaking Biennial of Latin American and the Caribbean
- 1997 National Prize of Printmaking, Cuba
- 2000 Printmaking Prize in Puerto Rico.

Eduardo Roca Salazar (Choco)

Choco was born in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba in 1949. He is the master of collagraphy and his use of color is very unique.

As famed art critic Michael Barnett write, “His work contributes to our own understanding of ourselves as better human beings…with it we discover another path to the realm of the fantastic which we all aspire to reach – where art always leads us, this time at the hand of the great Choco.”

Arturo Montoto

Arturo Montoto was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba in 1953.  He is a graduate of the Escuela Nacional de Arte (National School of Art) and the Escuela Superior the Arte (Superior Art School). 

Montoto is the wi
nner of remarkable recognitions along his artistic life, his artwork have been present in numerous magazines and books around the entire world.  He has performed at about 30 solo and more than 80 group exhibitions, his artwork have been present in Cuba, as well as Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Ever Fonseca

Ever Fonseca was born in Guantánamo, Cuba in 1939.  He is a painter, engraver, and sculptor.  In 1997, he was selected to represent Cuba at Art Museum XX Century TIMOTCA displaying for the first time in New York at the UN.  Fonseca was the first artist from the 60's era to have a solo show at the , La Habana, Cuba.

He has participated in more than 20 personal exhibitions throughout Cuba, Mexico, Latin America, USA and Europe.  His work can be found in numerous publis and private collections.




Carlos Alberto Garcia de La Nuez

Carlos Alberto Garcia de la Nuez was born in La Habana, Cuba in 1959.  He graduated from Academia de Arte San Alejandro (Art Academy San Alejandro) in 1979 and Instituto Superior de Arte ( Superior Institute of Art) in 1988.  his work can be found in select colletions:
